First Time with Ayahuasca
Preparation, Safety, and Guidance for Your First Experience
For many people, the first step toward ayahuasca comes with a mixture of curiosity, hope, uncertainty, and fear.
That is why this page exists.
It is an invitation to slow down, learn what the process involves, understand how Soul Journey approaches preparation and safety, and begin discerning whether this path is right for you.
You Are Not Expected to Be Fearless
Feeling nervous before ayahuasca does not mean something is wrong. It does not mean you are not ready. It often means you understand that this is meaningful work.
Rather than dismissing fear, we help you meet it with information, conversation, and care. When you know what the process involves, who is guiding you, what support is available, and how to navigate challenging moments if they appear, you can enter the experience with greater trust, openness, and presence.
Preparation Begins Before You Arrive
Before attending, participants are guided through an orientation process designed to create clarity, intention, readiness, and understanding. This gives you space to ask questions, express concerns, understand the ceremony structure, and begin forming a relationship with the process before meeting in person.
Preparation also includes medical and psychological screening, medication review, and an honest assessment of whether participation is appropriate at this time.
The Role of the Facilitator
Maestro Sani is the founder and lead facilitator of Soul Journey.
His approach is informed by decades of transformational work, apprenticeship within traditional frameworks, and ongoing practical experience facilitating ceremonies. This supports a grounded way of working with participants, the medicine, and the ceremonial environment.
He is not there to control your experience or tell you what your journey must mean. His role is to help maintain care, safety, stability, and respect for the process as it unfolds.
This includes ceremonial guidance, emotional steadiness, attention to the group environment, and support for participants as they move through their own experience.
Safety and Support
Before, during, and after the retreat, great care is taken to support each participant through a carefully held process. This includes practical, physical, emotional, psychological, relational, and ceremonial safety.
The retreat is guided with steady attention to wellbeing, calm, and stability. This creates an environment of open communication, honest expression, and shared care, where support is not something separate from the experience, but part of the space itself.
Safety does not mean every moment will be easy. It means the experience is approached with responsibility, preparation, presence, and care.
What If I Am Afraid of Purging?
At Soul Journey, the purge is not treated with shame or embarrassment. It is held as something human, natural, and possible within the process. If it happens, support is there. If it does not happen, that does not mean the experience has failed.
The important thing is not to force an expectation onto the experience.
What If Something Difficult Comes Up?
Ayahuasca may bring people into contact with emotions, memories, patterns, or questions that have been avoided, buried, or misunderstood. This can feel beautiful, tender, challenging, humbling, or unexpected.
Sometimes the material that arises is part of what is asking to be seen, felt, understood, or released.
What If I Do Not Know What Will Happen?
The invitation is not to predict everything. The invitation is to arrive prepared, supported, and willing to meet what arises.
Each ceremony is different. Each participant is different. Even for those with previous experience, no two journeys are the same.
This uncertainty is part of the work.
You Do Not Have to Understand Everything Immediately
Some insights may feel clear. Others may feel symbolic, mysterious, emotional, or difficult to put into words. Integration helps participants begin to make sense of the experience and consider how it relates to everyday life.
The purpose is not to escape your life. The purpose is to return to it with more honesty, compassion, awareness, and self-understanding.
Is This Right for Me?
This question is why preparation, screening, and honest conversation matter. The application process exists to help determine whether this experience is appropriate, supportive, and responsible for you at this time.
If you feel curiosity, nervousness, hope, resistance, or a quiet sense that something within you is ready to be explored, Soul Journey is here to support that conversation with care, clarity, and respect.
Come as You Are. Come With Your Story. Come Ready to Listen.
Your first ayahuasca experience is not about becoming someone else.
It is about creating the conditions to meet yourself more honestly.
With preparation.
With support.
With respect for the medicine.
With trust in the process.
And with space for the unknown.
Come as you are.
Be who you are.
Meet yourself anew.
